Mayhem on Russian railroads following Ukrainian attacks, intelligence source says
![]() Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR) and Special Operations Forces (SSO) carried out two coordinated operations targeting Russian railways, causing damage to infrastructure, a derailment, massive disruption of traffic, as well as killing two and maiming one enemy serviceman, Ukrainska Pravda news outlet reported, citing an intelligence source. One of the operations, carried out on September 13, targeted the Oryol-Kursk railway in western Russia. Railway workers found unidentified explosives on a section of the line that runs some 160 kilometers from the border in the western Oryol Region. Rosgvardiya, Russia’s national guard, dispatched an engineering unit to the site. “During an unsuccessful demining attempt, an explosion occurred, killing two Rosgvardiya officers and leaving one with traumatic amputations of both legs due to the explosion,” a HUR source told Ukrainiska Pravda. The explosion caused the disruption of railway traffic, with over 15 trains in both directions being delayed, as reported to Ukrainska Pravda by the intelligence source. Another attack took place on the night of September 13-14. An explosion occurred after 2 a.m. on the St. Petersburg-Pskov railway line, in a section running through the Leningrad Region, less than 70 kilometers from the city limits of St. Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city. |
