Riots erupt across France after national team’s World Cup defeat

![]() Violence broke out in several French cities, including Paris, after France’s national team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup semi-finals. Angry fans clashed with police following the match, with cars and other property damaged during the unrest. At least 141 arrests had been made in the French capital as of 6am this morning in connection to the post-game violence. The majority of the arrests were related to the use of fireworks mortars aimed at law enforcement and emergency services, a source at the Paris Police Prefecture told BFMTV.
