Merz reminded Trump of his German roots

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where the latter, at the beginning of the meeting, presented the American president with the birth certificate of Trump's grandfather, who was German.

Both of his paternal grandparents were German.
Fredrich and Elizabeth Trump were born in Kallstadt, a small village in the Palatinate region of Germany, southwest of Frankfurt.

Their lives reflect a classic American rags-to-riches story. Fredrich immigrated to New York and then to Seattle in 1885, where he became involved in the real estate business and the restaurant industry.

Research shows that he rented and ran a restaurant with a bar and even a brothel next door. The 'Poodle Dog' advertised "private rooms for ladies".

He returned to Germany in 1901, where he married Elizabeth Christ. The couple then returned to New York, where they settled. They had two children, John and Fred, who was the father of Donald Trump.

Merz proposed to Trump in the Oval Office of the White House to expand cooperation between Germany and the United States.

"We have a lot in common in our history. We owe a lot to the Americans. We will never forget that," the chancellor said, calling the US president's German roots "a very good basis for close cooperation."
