G7 countries agree on declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine

Member states of the Group of Seven at the NATO summit in Vilnius have agreed on a framework document concerning security guarantees for Ukraine.

The document is titled the "Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine".

"It is important that we, that is the G7, and Volodymyr [Zelenskyy – ed.] gather again today, after the G7 Summit," said Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan.
"[The declaration] is open to be signed by any country," he added.

US President Joe Biden thanked President Zelenskyy: "Ukraine is protecting the world," he stressed.

"Today, we launch the G7 Declaration, which guarantees security for Ukraine in the future," Biden stated.

Earlier, the UK government reported that the G7 countries had prepared long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, which they have called historic, considering them to be a step towards ending the current phase of the war.

Andrii Yermak, head of the President’s Office, believes that security guarantees from Ukraine’s Western partners will be provided soon, before the spring of 2024, but not at the NATO summit in Vilnius.
