An earthquake of magnitude 6 occurred in the area of Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Japan. This was reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The earthquake occurred at 12:16 p.m. local time. The hypocenter lay at a depth of 40 km.

Tremors were also felt in the center of Tokyo.

There have been no reports of casualties so far. No tsunami threat has been announced.
