Ukraine will not be NATO member, this became clear after US elections — Orban

Ukraine will not become a NATO member; it will remain a buffer zone between the North Atlantic Alliance and Russia. This became clear after Republican Donald Trump returned to power in the United States, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated at the opening of the spring session of the national parliament.

"After the elections in the United States, it was decided that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO. The fate of Ukraine and the territory left behind is crucial for Hungary's security. This issue will be resolved through a ceasefire and peace talks," Orban said, with his speech streamed on the Hungarian parliament's website.

He also emphasized that "a peace treaty should guarantee the security of Hungary and NATO member states, while the status of Ukraine, which will again function as a buffer zone, should be addressed accordingly."

"It seems that this will be decided not only by Europeans, and perhaps not primarily by them," Orban added.
