Santiago Bernabeu no more! Real Madrid to rename iconic stadium for the first time since 1955
![]() Real Madrid are reportedly looking to rename their iconic Santiago Bernabeu stadium for the first time in nearly 70 years. According to Marca, Madrid are looking to change the name of their iconic ground from Santiago Bernabeu to The Bernabeu. The report adds this is being made for commercial and marketing reasons. Los Blancos put in place the Santiago Bernabeu name on January 4, 1955, and was used to honour the club's former player, manager, and president of the same name. It has since become one of the most famous sporting stadiums in the world. Bernabeu was Madrid's president for nearly 35 years, during which time the club won six European Cups, 16 league titles, six Spanish cups, and many more trophies. He also reportedly helped Manchester United rebuild its team following the Munich air disaster in 1958. |
