#NYT: the Syrian opposition has assured the United States that it will not cooperate with ISIS
![]() Representatives of the armed Syrian opposition, through intermediaries, assured the American administration that they do not intend to interact in any way with the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in the Russian Federation), The New York Times reported. According to the publication, the United States conveyed through the Turkish government a message to the armed opposition that ISIS militants should not be involved in the operation against government forces in Syria. On the same channel, the armed opposition replied that it did not intend to allow the Islamic State to associate with it. The reports, the newspaper points out, were transmitted through diplomatic, military and intelligence channels. On November 27, members of the opposition armed groups launched a large-scale offensive against government positions in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. By the evening of December 7, opponents of President Bashar al-Assad had captured several major cities - Aleppo, Hama, Deir ez-Zor, Deraa and Homs. On Sunday morning, they entered Damascus, after which the Syrian army units left the city. Assad left the presidency and the country after intra-Syrian negotiations. |
