Jewish Democrat blasts Netanyahu's speech to Congress as 'cynical stunt'
The most senior Jewish member of Congress on Tuesday predicted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address will be a political show. Netanyahu is set to deliver a speech to a joint session of Congress Wednesday afternoon, an event several Democrats have announced they will boycott. Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., claimed in a statement the prime minister will try to improve his standing in Israel by leveraging Congress’s platform. “Prime Minister Netanyahu and his American allies are seeking to use the United States Congress, the greatest legislative body in the world, as the set for their next partisan advertisement, casting elected Members of Congress as glorified extras,” Rep. Nadler said. Netanyahu on Monday announced he will try to gather bipartisan support for Israel and reaffirm the alliance between his country and the U.S. He will instead be interfering with American politics as the presidential election approaches, according to Rep. Nadler. |
