Zelenskiy Says US Must Be Part of Ukraine Peacekeeping Force

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said any effective peacekeeping force deployed in Ukraine will need to include US troops, as he appealed to Donald Trump ahead of talks with Russia.

In an interview with Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait, Zelenskiy said that his European allies don’t have enough soldiers to pose a realistic deterrent to President Vladimir Putin and any other solution would risk opening up divisions within the NATO alliance.

Zelenskiy said any potential peacekeeping force, if it were to be deployed, must include the participation of US troops.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos, Switzerland, Zelensky said that his country would need at least 200,000 European peacekeeping troops as part of potential security guarantees to prevent any future Russian attack after a possible ceasefire.
