In Germany, a fire almost completely destroyed housing for Ukrainians who fled the war in the German commune of Gross-Stremkendorf in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. About it informs Spiegel.

The fire started on the evening of October 19, none of the 14 guests and three employees of the hostel were injured.

“All 14 residents were able to leave the premises unharmed. Three employees are also all right,” said a spokesman for the district of Northwest Mecklenburg.

Police believe arson was the cause of the fire. Last Saturday, law enforcement officers already came to the refugee shelter because of graffiti with a swastika that appeared on the entrance sign.

“Based on my many years of experience as a firefighter, I currently assume that the fire was deliberately set,” – said the representative of the local authorities.

According to a spokesman for the county, immediately after the fire, all residents were moved to another building.

After the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, data UN, more than 14 million Ukrainians fled the country. About seven million of them returned. Another 7.7 million people remain in Europe. Poland (1.4 million) and Germany (more than a million) are in first place in terms of the distribution of refugees across EU countries.
