US State Department: US seeks to help peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict

The United States, as one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, takes its responsibility in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict seriously and is committed to helping the parties solve the problem peacefully.

This was announced on Thursday by deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, George Kent.

"The United States takes its responsibility seriously as one of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. We are pleased that meetings took place between the parties at the level of leaders and foreign ministers. The parties reached an agreement to reduce tensions on the contact line. At a recent meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia satisfactory agreements were reached in Moscow,” said Kent.

Regarding the possibility of holding the next meeting of Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the United States, the State Department spokesman said:

“As for the next meeting, I cannot say that we have decided on a place, but the rest is assured that the United States takes its obligations seriously. We want support the process that will lead to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. We remain committed to helping the parties to resolve the conflict peacefully,” he said.
