Rubio says talks with Ukraine ‘positive’ as Witkoff heads to Russia
![]() US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that talks between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo had been “positive.” Rubio said Witkoff was now heading to meet officials in Russia. “It was positive, nothing unexpected, nothing surprising, and he’ll now, armed with those ideas, be able to go to St. Petersburg and share them with the Russian side — and let’s see if we can make some progress,” Rubio said, speaking in India. White House envoy Steve Witkoff will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday to present an updated proposal aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, Axios reported, citing a U.S. official. President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner will join the meeting virtually, according to Axios. The meeting follows Tuesday's talks in Oslo, Norway, where Witkoff met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders to develop a framework for ending the conflict. |
