EU to allocate €3.3 billion to Ukraine for missiles and drones

The European Union will provide Ukraine with an additional €3.3 billion to purchase missiles and drones. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement.

According to her, the EU is also preparing a new program of joint defense projects with Ukraine. The remaining funds from the SAFE mechanism are planned to be used to launch it.

The initiative is intended to combine Ukraine’s battlefield experience and innovations with the technologies and industrial capabilities of European countries.

"Last week, we approved EU funding for Patriot systems under our Ukraine Support Loan. But it is clear that more is needed.

We want to jointly develop a European air and missile defense system, building on our joint Freya anti-ballistic system, so that we can combine Ukraine’s battlefield experience and innovations with European technology and industrial capacity"
