'No win-win in this war': Zelenskyy says Putin wants all of Ukraine
![]() There can no longer be a victory for both sides in Russia's war against Ukraine — only an end to the fighting to save lives. At the same time, some partners mistakenly believe that Putin only wants part of Ukrainian territory, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with CBC News. "The problem is that we have to change Putin's mind. He has the biggest territory in the world, and you need, I don't know, some kilometers. So for what? This is the answer. That's why it's very strange when some partners say, 'Look, he needs just this part of Ukraine, just these kilometers, and that's all.' No, it's a crazy idea. No, he doesn't need kilometers. He needs Ukraine. He needs Ukraine to be a part of Russia," the president said. The president also commented on a solution that would benefit both Russia and Ukraine. "Between us, to be honest, there is no win-win in this war. It can't be so because of so many human losses. It stopped being win-win on the first day of this war. The most important victory for everybody — it's not for Ukraine and Russia, it's for everybody, for the world — is peace, to stop this war. And this is a victory for human lives," Zelenskyy said. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine and the US are in constant dialogue and continue negotiations — the American side, according to him, is taking various measures to provide support. At the same time, regarding sanctions, the president noted that the US should act more strongly and decisively to completely destroy Russia's ability to wage war. Zelenskyy said that the American side had asked not to disclose details of the negotiations in the media while the ideas that had been discussed were still being worked out. Preparations are currently underway for the president's meeting with Donald Trump in New York, which is scheduled for the end of September. |
