Black bear goes into JBER shopping mall, steals some fruit

A black bear was caught on video entering the shopping mall on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on Sunday morning.

According to a JBER Spokesperson, a young black bear entered the Exchange shopping mall around 9 a.m.

The bear was caught on video going into the Commissary, where it “helped itself to a peach,” left some scat in the hallway and finally left the building.

According to the JBER spokesperson, Conservation Law Enforcement officers then shooed the bear towards Ship Creek and further into the woods.

In a press release, Colette Brandt, JBER’s wildlife program manager, said that the encounter was entirely incidental and that the bear had triggered the automatic doors.
