European Commission president and European Council chief arrive in Kyiv

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa have arrived in the city of Kyiv on the morning of 24 February.

"In Kyiv for the tenth time since the start of the war. To reaffirm that Europe stands unwaveringly with Ukraine, financially, militarily, and through this harsh winter." Von der Leyen wrote on X. She added that her visit coincides with the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, aiming "to underscore our enduring commitment to Ukraine's just fight".

"And to send a clear message to the Ukrainian people and to the aggressor alike: we will not relent until peace is restored. Peace on Ukraine's terms," she concluded.

Meanwhile, Costa emphasised that the purpose of their trip is "to secure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine".
