Apple ‘runs on Anthropic,’ says Mark Gurman
![]() New interview highlights Apple’s dependence on Anthropic for product development Based on new comments from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, it’s easy to see why. Gurman, speaking on TBPN, said the following: Apple runs on Anthropic at this point. Anthropic is powering a lot of the stuff Apple is doing internally in terms of product development, a lot of their internal tools…They have custom versions of Claude running on their own servers internally. In the full clip, Gurman mentions how Apple initially pursued an AI deal with Anthropic before the Google partnership came together. The deal apparently fell apart because Anthropic wanted several billion dollars per year, and even a doubling of fees over time. Meanwhile, Apple’s deal with Google is reportedly costing just one billion annually. Initially though, uncertainty around Apple and Google’s existing Safari search deal led to prioritizing Anthropic and OpenAI as potential partners. What do you make of Gurman’s comments about Apple’s reliance on Anthropic’s tech? Let us know in the comments. |
