Iran Urges UN Action over Trump’s Threats
![]() Tehran demanded action from the United Nations following a series of bellicose comments from US President Donald Trump, including a claim that Washington is “locked and loaded” to intervene in the ongoing unrest within Iran. In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and members of the Security Council on Friday, Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani said the US president’s statement made earlier the same day constituted “yet another clear instance of intervention in the internal affairs of a Member State of the UN, in violation of international law and the Charter of the UN". The ambassador cautioned that any attempt to incite or legitimize internal unrest as a pretext for external pressure or military intervention would constitute a grave violation of the Islamic Republic’s sovereignty, political independence, and territorial integrity, citing Articles 2(1), 2(4), and 2(7) of the UN Charter as well as UN General Assembly resolution 2625 of 1970.
