#Axios: "Eurotroyka to start restoring sanctions against Iran"
![]() The Eurotroyka - Britain, Germany and France - told US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that they will trigger the mechanism to restore all sanctions on Iran on Thursday, Axios reported, citing sources. This refers to the "reset" mechanism that automatically restores all UN Security Council sanctions that were lifted under the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. Iran and the Eurotroyka countries failed to reach an agreement on the eve of talks in Geneva to prevent the resumption of sanctions against the Islamic Republic. The Eurotroyka had threatened Tehran with new sanctions after it suspended cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) following strikes by Israel and the US in June. Earlier, the Eurogroup said it was ready to extend the suspension of sanctions if Tehran agreed to resume nuclear talks with the United States and cooperation with the IAEA by September. Otherwise, the restrictions would come into effect at the end of August. |
