Trump says he has no plans to impose sanctions on Russia yet

US President Donald Trump has said after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that he has no plans to impose new sanctions on Russia or its trading partners. He made the remarks in an interview with Fox News after meeting with the Russian president in Anchorage.

In response to a question about secondary sanctions against Russia and China for buying Russian oil, Trump replied:

"Because of what happened today, I don't think we need to think about that yet. The meeting with Putin went well," Trump said.

At the same time, the US president noted that he could think about additional tariffs on China "in two or three weeks."

Trump boasted that Putin praised his economic successes, calling the United States "hot as a cannon."

Trump did not say on which issues he disagreed with the Russian president.

"I would prefer not to talk about it publicly. "I think someone will come out and say it publicly," the US president said.

According to Trump, Russia and China are "essentially natural enemies."

"Russia has a huge territory, China has a huge population. China needs Russian territory," he added.
