"Russia is increasing its military presence in Armenia" - Ukrainian intelligence
![]() Amid worsening relations with Azerbaijan, Russia is increasing its military presence in Armenia. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the Kremlin has accelerated the process of replenishing the 102nd military base in Gyumri. The contingent consists of servicemen serving in the Rostov and Volgograd regions of Russia, as well as in the Crimean peninsula. In addition, Moscow is actively recruiting volunteers among representatives of the peoples of the North Caucasus, in particular, from North Ossetia and Adygea. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the deployment of Russian troops in Armenia is part of a broader strategy to destabilize the situation in the region. The Kremlin seeks to increase military and political pressure on the countries of the South Caucasus, while simultaneously inflaming interethnic conflicts and provoking tensions between states. It is likely that the confrontation between Russia and Azerbaijan is not a coincidence, but a planned move by Moscow as part of its geopolitical game in the Caucasus. |
