UN accuses Israel of one of the world's worst genocides

Israel is responsible for one of the worst genocides in modern history in Gaza, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of Palestine, Francesca Albanese, told the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC).

“The situation in the occupied Palestinian territory is apocalyptic. Palestinians in Gaza continue to suffer unimaginable suffering. Israel is responsible for one of the worst genocides in modern history. Official figures put the number of victims at over 200,000. Experts estimate the real number to be much higher,” she said.

“I once thought the problem was ignorance about Palestine and its history. Later, I saw that behind it was ideology, the deep political attachment of many states and elites to Israel. "However, this does not justify the genocide, which is so obvious and broadcast live," the special rapporteur added.
