"The actions of law enforcement officers cannot serve as a reason for a demarche" - Peskov
![]() The actions of law enforcement agencies cannot serve as a basis for diplomatic demarches. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, which demanded an investigation into the arrests of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. “We sincerely regret such decisions,” Peskov said. According to him, it is important to continue work to “explain the reasons and nature of the events that, in the opinion of the Azerbaijani side, gave rise to such demarches.” When asked whether a Putin-Aliyev telephone conversation was planned, Peskov noted that it was not yet on the agenda, but, if necessary, it would take place as soon as possible. “Russia is interested in the further development of good relations with Azerbaijan,” Peskov added. Recall that the mass arrests of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg took place on June 27. The Sverdlovsk Department of the Investigative Committee reported that it is investigating a criminal case on the facts of murders and attempted murders committed by an ethnic criminal group in Yekaterinburg in 2001, 2010 and 2011. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry announced that there were victims and wounded among those arrested, and asked that those involved in the violence be held accountable during the investigative actions. |
