The red flag of revenge has been raised in Iran
![]() A red flag of revenge has been raised over Iran's Jamkaran Mosque following Israeli attacks on the country's facilities, Iran's Fars news agency reported. "The red flag ... was raised over the dome of the holy Jamkaran Mosque as a sign of revenge," the statement said. The red flag was previously raised on January 4, 2020, following an airstrike on Baghdad International Airport, as well as the death of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in September 2024. The flag is usually raised during Muharram, one of the four holy months of the Islamic calendar, when war is prohibited. The gesture is said to be a warning of imminent retaliation.
