Rubio: "The main obstacle to achieving peace is the incompatibility of the parties' demands"

The main problem in resolving the conflict in Ukraine is that Russia wants what it does not have and has no right to, and Ukraine wants what it cannot return militarily. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

According to him, the main obstacle to achieving peace is the incompatibility of the parties' demands.

"Russia insists on recognizing the territories under its control in 2022, including the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions. At the same time, Ukraine seeks to restore control over these regions, which, in Rubio's opinion, cannot be achieved by military means alone," Rubio said.

Rubio stressed that the United States is considering the possibility of imposing additional sanctions against Russia if there is no progress in the peace talks. He noted that diplomatic channels remain open, but "Washington's patience is not unlimited."

The US Secretary of State also noted the importance of negotiations and compromises between the two sides to achieve a lasting peace.
