#Globo: "Brazil would like to play the role of mediator in the negotiations on Ukraine"
![]() The administration of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva would like to play the role of a mediator in the negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, since US efforts to end it have not yielded concrete results so far. This was reported by the Brazilian newspaper O Globo, citing sources in the government of the South American republic. In their opinion, Lula da Silva's upcoming visit to Moscow to participate in the Victory Day celebrations should demonstrate the independence of Brazil's foreign policy. The head of state may also offer the Russian side the possibilities of Brazilian diplomacy to resolve the situation in Ukraine, the newspaper writes. As he notes, in Brazil they believe that the White House has not fulfilled its promises to stop the conflict, so the Brazilian authorities are ready to take on the role of a mediator. At the same time, the Brazilian government sees a greater desire to resolve the conflict on the part of Russia than on the part of the European Union or Kiev. Earlier, Celso Amorim, the Brazilian President's special assistant for international affairs, announced that Lula da Silva intends to act as a peace envoy during his upcoming visit to Russia and support initiatives to start negotiations to resolve the conflict. |
