"Trump wants a permanent, not a temporary, ceasefire"- White House
![]() US President Donald Trump wants to see a permanent ceasefire to ending Russia's war in Ukraine, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Monday. Leavitt told reporters that Trump was increasingly frustrated with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and both needed to come to the negotiating table to end the war. She noted that Putin had offered a temporary ceasefire on Monday, but reiterated that the US president had made it clear that he was seeking a permanent ceasefire. “The president has made it clear that he wants a long-term cessation of hostilities. First and foremost, to stop the killing and the bloodshed,” Leavitt said. He added that “the president’s recent meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky showed how seriously he is engaged in the process and how much time and effort he is willing to spend on it, because he wants to be a peacemaker president, something he failed to be in his first term. Now he intends to achieve this goal.” |
