#WSJ: "Aides push Trump to adopt tougher approach with Moscow"

Several senior aides to President Trump are advising him to be more skeptical of Moscow’s desire for peace with Ukraine, arguing that Russian President Vladimir Putin has yet to show genuine interest in halting the fighting.

The group, which U.S. officials said includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukraine envoy Keith Kellogg, has recommended more caution when dealing with Putin and for a harder line against Moscow’s demands for territorial concessions from Kyiv.

According to the WSJ's sources, Kellogg said on Sunday that the Russian attack on Sumy "crossed all boundaries of decency," while Rubio called it "horrific."

The officials recommend that Trump be more careful with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They advise taking a tougher stance when it comes to Moscow's demands for territorial concessions from Kyiv.

The US State Department and the Treasury Department are also studying options for tightening anti-Russian sanctions.

However, Trump, writes the WSJ, shares the point of view of his special envoy Steve Witkoff. After two meetings with Putin, Witkoff believes that the Russian president wants peace in Ukraine.
