Ozel։ "From now on, rallies will be held in all provinces"
![]() The opposition in Turkey will hold rallies every Saturday and Sunday in one of the 81 provinces, and every Wednesday in Istanbul. This was announced by Ozgur Ozel, the leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party. "Today, 2.2 million people gathered in Istanbul's Maltepe Square. I would like to thank all our citizens who filled the square to defend justice. This is just the beginning. Now we will hold rallies every Saturday and Sunday in the provinces (each time in one of the 81 provinces) and every Wednesday in one of the districts of Istanbul," the politician was quoted as saying by Halk TV. After the arrest of Istanbul's opposition mayor Ekrem Imamoglu on March 19 (on charges of corruption and ties to terrorists), a wave of protests broke out in Turkey. The largest demonstrations were organized in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, often accompanied by clashes with the police. |
