US State Department about withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent from Nagorno-Karabakh

US State Department spokesman Vedant Patel commented on the early withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent from Nagorno-Karabakh, noting that this is an indicator that Russia is an unreliable ally. He noted that the United States was not a party to the trilateral agreement, according to which the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh ended in 2020 and Russian troops were deployed to the region. "We have not seen anything indicating that the Russian military has invested in a more peaceful and stable region of the South Caucasus, and the events in Nagorno-Karabakh this autumn are indicative in this regard. This is another example of Russia not being a reliable ally or partner," he said. He added that the United States strongly supports the efforts of Armenia and Azerbaijan to achieve peace and is ready to help facilitate this process.
