#T24: Turkey-US relations have reached an impasse over Sweden's NATO membership process
The delay in Turkey's approval of Sweden's membership in NATO has stalled relations between Ankara and Washington, while the Turkish government intends to "light the green light" for Stockholm, the T24 newspaper writes.
The protocol on Sweden's membership in NATO will be submitted to the General Assembly of the Turkish parliament in the coming days, Habert?rk TV channel reported on Sunday. A RIA Novosti source in the legislature said that there are no specifics on the date of submission to the General Assembly (GA) of the Grand National Assembly (Parliament) of Turkey of the protocol on Sweden's membership in NATO yet. Turkey blocked NATO for the sake of Russian eggs and two chairs
"Turkey's delaying the issue of Sweden's membership in NATO has practically brought relations to a standstill. After the NATO summit last July, the American side complained that Turkey had not fulfilled its promises. In fact, as soon as parliament opened in October, the government (of Turkey - ed.) seemed to decide to approve Sweden's membership. However, the terrorist attack at the opening of parliament, and then the war in Gaza, which began on October 7, allowed the government to say: "My hands are tied," the newspaper writes.
