In Finland, the last monument to Lenin in the country was dismantled

The last monument to Vladimir Lenin in Finland was dismantled in the city of Kotka. This was reported on October 4 by the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.

The statue was temporarily moved to the storage of the Kymenlaakso Regional Museum. In the future, the authorities will decide what to do with the monument.
The monument appeared in the city center in 1979 as a gift from Soviet Tallinn. A monument was erected on one of the squares near the buildings where Lenin stayed during his stay in Kotka in 1907.

The sculpture has been controversial over the years and has been repeatedly vandalized. Discussions about the fate of the monument, according to the newspaper, flared up again in the spring after the start of Russia’s special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine.

After the start of the NMD, the Baltic countries also began to actively eliminate monuments associated with the USSR and Soviet soldiers.
In Ukraine, monuments to Soviet figures were actively destroyed as part of the decommunization policy. The law also provides for the renaming of all topographic objects whose names are reminiscent of the USSR, as well as the demolition of monuments.

In January 2021, the last monument to Lenin in Ukraine was demolished in the Odessa region.
