Rinat Akhmetov remained the richest man in Ukraine even after losing 64% of his fortune

Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov’s net worth has shrunk by almost two-thirds in recent months, but he remains the country’s richest man. It is reported by Forbes Ukraine. His company “Metinvest” owned “Azovstal” and the Mariupol Iron and Steel Works. Ilyich (MMK), injured during the hostilities.

If in February the fortune of Mr. Akhmetov was estimated at $13.7 billion, then by July it had dropped to $4.9 billion. The reason is that the Metinvest mining and metallurgical company owned by him lost two of its main enterprises in Mariupol: Azovstal and MMK. In 2021, these enterprises produced 8.6 million tons of steel, or 90% of all steel produced by the group. 40% of Ukrainian metal production accounted for these plants.

Another loss of the oligarch was Media Group Ukraine, which Mr. Akhmetov lost after the so-called anti-oligarchic law came into force. Rinat Akhmetov voluntarily relinquished his broadcasting license and lost his entire media business, which included ten satellite and terrestrial channels, the Segodnya Internet resource, the Vogue website and print magazine, the Oll.tv online cinema, and the Xtra TV satellite platform.

The second and third places in the ranking of the richest people in Ukraine are occupied by Viktor Pinchuk with a fortune of $2 billion and Vadym Novinsky, whose assets are estimated at $1.4 billion.
