The UN named the time of reaching an equal number of men and women at the head of the country

UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo on Monday, March 8, at an informal meeting of the UN Security Council, said that it would be possible to achieve an equal share of men and women at the head of state and government in 130 years.

“At the current level of progress, achieving gender equality at the level of heads of state and government will take another 130 years,” RIA Novosti quotes her.

According to DiCarlo, the UN must lead by example in matters of gender equality. She clarified that the secretary general of the organization, Antonio Guterres, has appointed women to more than 57% of leadership positions in special political missions of the UN, including the posts of heads of missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“We are committed to the constructive participation of women in the peace processes that are taking place under the auspices of the UN,” the deputy secretary general stressed.

Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres noted that in only 22 countries a woman is the head of state or government. At the same time, only 21% of ministers are women, and women-parliamentarians make up less than 25% of deputies.

Earlier, on March 6, the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong spoke about the success in the struggle for the representation of women in legislative bodies of the world: in 2020, for the first time in history, the inhabitants of the planet occupied 25.5% of all parliamentary seats.
