Trump claims US took more oil out of Strait of Hormuz than ever before
![]() US President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that the US had taken more oil out of the Strait of Hormuz over the past several days than “at any point in history.” “You know, we took more oil out of the Hormuz Strait over the last couple of days than at any point in history,” Trump told reporters at the White House. Asked whether Iran was about to give up or concede, Trump said Tehran was “doing very poorly” and predicted that it would eventually give up. “I don't know if they're going to give up yet, but they'll give up,” he said. “But they're doing very poorly.” Trump repeated that the US campaign was aimed at stopping Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on Feb. 28. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks across the region and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for energy supplies. Efforts to end the war have continued since a June memorandum aimed at reaching a final peace deal on navigation in the strategic waterway as well as Iran's nuclear program. |
