Lavrov expects to meet with Rubio on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, stated this Tuesday that he plans to meet with his American counterpart, Marco Rubio, during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York, which will take place from September 22 to 28.

"I have a meeting scheduled in New York with Rubio, on the margins of the General Assembly (of the UN)," Lavrov noted, according to the Russian agency TASS. For the moment, Washington authorities have not provided confirmation about this meeting, which would mainly focus on the war in Ukraine and the state of relations between Moscow and Washington.

The head of Russian diplomacy reiterated that, in the Kremlin's view, the United States "understands the underlying causes of this conflict, unlike the rest of the Western countries," and positively assessed the interest shown by the Donald Trump Administration in seeking a negotiated solution.
