Iran declares unified maritime security rule for Persian Gulf, Oman Gulf
![]() Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s central military headquarters Khatam al-Anbiya, has said that security in the country’s territorial waters will be ensured “decisively and without interruption” as part of defending national sovereignty, according to a statement from the IRGC press service. “The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran consider the protection of the country’s legitimate rights a natural and legal duty. Based on this, exercising Iran’s sovereignty over its territorial waters is a natural right of the Iranian people. Accordingly, ensuring security in the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the country’s armed forces will continue decisively and without interruption. As has been repeatedly stated, vessels belonging to the enemy do not and will not have the right to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, while other vessels will be allowed passage in accordance with rules set by Iran’s armed forces. Also, in light of ongoing threats from the enemy against the Iranian people and national security, even after the end of the war, the Islamic Republic of Iran will firmly implement a permanent control mechanism over the Strait of Hormuz. The United States imposing restrictions on maritime traffic in international waters is an illegal act and is considered maritime piracy. The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran explicitly and firmly state: the security of ports in the Persian Gulf and the Oman Gulf is either for all or for none. If the security of the ports of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Oman Gulf is endangered, no port in the Persian Gulf and the Oman Gulf will be safe,” the statement said. |
