#Eurasianet: "There is still a lot of hard work to be done to achieve real, lasting peace"
![]() The Trump Road for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) is far from perfect. The joint agreement states that the United States and Armenia are simply expressing their “determination to work in good faith to achieve this goal as quickly as possible,” Eurasianet reported. According to the report, key operational details remain up in the air, and the timetable for the talks has not been set. “This summit was a step forward in the peace process, but the agreements reached leave many questions unanswered. Most of the issues agreed upon in the White House were repackaged items on which Armenia and Azerbaijan had already agreed in principle,” noted Joshua Kuchera, a senior analyst at the paper. It is noted that given the US president’s tendency to have high self-esteem, naming the “corridor” after him could increase the likelihood that Washington will remain closely involved in this process, continuing to put pressure on Armenia and Azerbaijan. “He (Trump) has a lot of influence in this game. But there are many other forces that intend to disrupt the deal, for example, Russia and Iran. They are likely to not remain idle, as the United States tries to seize their regional influence,” the newspaper wrote. Influential Iranian leaders have already indicated that Tehran will use all the means at its disposal to prevent the implementation of this program. The Kremlin is also clearly not happy with the developments. The article also notes that Pashinyan is likely to encounter determined domestic resistance to the program. According to polls, only a third of Armenians believe that the country is moving in the right direction. "There is still a lot of hard work to be done to achieve real, lasting peace," Kucera noted. |
