Iran does not agree with certain points of the "Istanbul Declaration" - Sobhani
![]() Iran does not agree with the territorial claims against Armenia contained in the “Istanbul Declaration”. This was stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani. It should be recalled that the declaration, instigated by Baku, mentioned the so-called “Western Azerbaijan community” and called on Armenia “not to hinder the return of Western Azerbaijanis.” By the expression “Western Azerbaijan”, Baku means the territory of Armenia. The Iranian side, which has repeatedly verbally supported the territorial integrity of Armenia, voted in favor of the adoption of the document. The official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baghay, stated that the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation may raise issues in collective documents that do not reflect the position of each member state. |
