Pope Leo XIV wants to make the Vatican a venue for talks between Ukraine and Russia, La Stampa reported, citing Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin. Parolin did not provide further details.

According to him, the Pope intends to make the Vatican available for a direct meeting between the two sides.

According to the source, the absence of Russian President Vladimir Putin from the talks in Istanbul is hampering the diplomatic efforts of many countries, including US President Donald Trump.

On May 11, Pope Leo XIV called for a “lasting and genuine peace” in Ukraine, the release of all prisoners and the hope that the soldiers would return to their families.
