More than 1,100 protesters have been detained and 123 police officers injured in four days of protests against the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu in Turkey, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said.

“1,133 people suspected of committing illegal acts were detained between March 19 and March 23, 2025. Among those detained, 12 people were identified as having links to different terrorist organizations,” the minister wrote in X.

Mass protests are banned in Istanbul from March 19 to 27. Despite this, the opposition is holding daily rallies in various locations, mainly near the city hall. According to the opposition, about a million people took part in the mass demonstrations on Saturday. Demonstrations in support of Imamoglu are continuing to this day.

Police are using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters.
