Over 340 Protesters Arrested in Turkey

 On March 21, Turkish authorities detained 343 people during protests, the country's Interior Minister announced. He stated that the arrests were made as part of an investigation coordinated between the Istanbul Municipality and the Chief Prosecutor’s Office. The protests took place in multiple cities, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Antalya, Çanakkale, Eskişehir, Konya, and Edirne. Demonstrations began on March 19 following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. He faces charges of corruption and alleged ties to terrorist organizations, accusations he firmly denies. İmamoğlu is widely regarded as a key political rival to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. |
