16 police officers injured in clashes in Turkey
![]() At least 16 police officers were injured on Thursday during clashes with protesters against the detention of opposition Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said. "Yesterday evening, 16 of our police officers were injured during the protests. Administrative measures were taken against 53 people based on articles of the law on resisting government officials while performing their official duties and on damaging state property," the minister wrote in X. Protests in support of the detained Istanbul mayor were held in many cities in Turkey on Thursday. As part of the investigation of corruption and support for terrorism, which is being conducted by the Istanbul Prosecutor General's Office, 87 out of 106 suspects were detained last Wednesday, including Republican People's Party representative Imamoglu. |
