![]() German Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz, who won the Bundestag election, met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. “Dear Emmanuel Macron, thank you very much for your friendship and trust in German-French relations. Together, our countries can achieve great things for Europe,” Merz wrote. After a three-hour conversation between Merz and Macron at the Élysée Palace, the two politicians expressed “the will to turn a new page in German-French relations,” the Christian Democratic Union said in a statement, dpa reported. “The talks took place in an exceptionally friendly atmosphere, a great deal of agreement was reached on a number of topics and many starting points for joint initiatives were found.” ![]() |
