This is a valuable booklet edited by Avetis Avetisyan titled "The Forgotten German Hero of Armenia", dedicated to Colonel Alexander Schneur, a participant in the 1918 Battle of Sardarapat and the founder of the Intelligence and Counterintelligence divisions of the General Staff of the First Republic of Armenia.
Alexander Konstantinovich Schneur (1884, Saint Petersburg – 1977, San Francisco) was of German noble descent. Schneur made a significant contribution to the overall victory at the Battle of Sardarapat, where he fought shoulder to shoulder with the renowned Armenian commander Daniel Bek-Pirumyan. From Schneur's memoirs, we learn about Bek-Pirumyan's heroic act during a critical moment of the battle. To inspire his troops, Bek-Pirumyan turned the red lining of his military uniform outward, donned it that way, and rushed to the front lines, personally leading the decisive charge.
From the second half of 1919, Alexander Schneur moved to the North Caucasus, participated in battles against the Bolsheviks, and later emigrated to Europe and subsequently to America. Throughout his life, he remained a devoted friend of Armenia, continuing to publish valuable articles and books advocating for a just resolution of the Armenian Question, even after leaving the country.
