Google finally disconnects Russian users from monetization

Google's contextual advertising service AdSense has decided to completely shut down its operations in Russia and disable user accounts from Russia, as Google reported in an email newsletter sent to Russian publishers, according to the specialized publication 3Dnews, UNN reports.

Details

"We are deactivating all AdSense accounts with Russia as the country of location. This means that it will be impossible to make a profit from monetization through such accounts. Earnings for July will be paid out between August 21 and 26, if the account has not been suspended and payment thresholds have been met," the Google Payments team said in a statement.

"Thus, website owners and video bloggers from Russia operating on YouTube will completely lose access to Google AdSense and the services provided by the advertising network," the statement said.

Reportedly, Google AdSense has previously imposed restrictions on the Russian user audience. Starting in March 2022, Google's ad network has disabled the display of ads in Russia and banned the creation of new accounts by Russians. "Now the company has decided to sever all business ties with publishers from Russia," the newspaper notes.

Addendum

In early August this year, the Russian authorities began to slow down YouTube. Alexander Khinshtein, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, explained that the video hosting service was violating Russian law with impunity.

At the same time, the State Duma of the Russian Federation announced the imminent blocking of all Google services in Russia. Also, according to Russian MP Alexey Didenko, the Android operating system will be blocked.
