Ireland: about 70% of the population supported the legalization of abortion

Ireland held a referendum on the legalization of abortion in the country. The vote took place on Friday, may 25. The referendum was attended by more than 3.2 million people, according to local media.It is noted that 68% of residents favoured the abolition of the ban, while 32% oppose changing the law. Most supporters of legalization of abortion was in Dublin (77%). This is evidenced by the results of the exit polls. So, the people from 50 to 64 years in the majority voted against abortion. At the same time, the younger generation of Ireland (from 18 to 24 years) spoke in favor of the legalization of abortion (87%). Official referendum results will be announced on Saturday, may 26. |
