Karembeu about the Armenian national football team, Mkhitaryan and 2018 World Cup winner

Today FIFA world cup trophy is in Armenia. It was introduced to people of Armenia by the winner of 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 as a member of French team, the FIFA ambassador of the tour, taking place shortly before the World Cup 2018, Christian Karembeu. After the official ceremony the celebrated footballer answered a few questions.
To the question whether Henrikh Mkhitaryan could have played in the French team of those years together with Youri Djorkaeff and Alain Boghossian, Karembeu answered.
“A footballer as talented as Henrikh Mkhitaryan is capable of playing for any club and any team. I also know Gevorg Ghazaryan from the Armenian team, because he played for “ Olympiacos S.F.P.”. As for Mkhitaryan, he used to play in the Bundesliga and now he’s joined the Premier Leauge and can share his experience with his fellow footballers of the Armenian team thus helping the team to reach the goals”, said the footballer to the MAMUL.am reporter.
When asked who was the strongest footballer he had ever played with, Karembeu said, “They are many.. Youri Djorkaeff, Zinedine Zidan, Thierry Henry…There are a lot of good players I have been lucky enough to play with. Speaking of the National team, Zidane, of course, was the best. As far as the strongest ones I played against are concerned… among them Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho.”
Speaking of 2018 World Cup winner Karembeu said, “20 years ago we won the Cup together with two Armenians. In which team there are Armenians now I can’t tell, but that’s going to be the team to win, for sure (laughs). But seriously, of course, I would love France to win. The French team has great potential although there are challenging opponents such as Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Germany …and, perhaps, Russia as a host country. So it remains to be seen.”
